In January 2020 following the success of the plot project, Just Bowl received a further 3 years finding from Sport England and the Rayne Foundation to extend the project across more than 200 Residential Care Homes.
Funding was also made available to extend the research element and work with two new key partners, the Stroke Association and Headway.
Just Bowl have identified 7 dementia specific care homes to work with to conduct some research into what impact the activity has on the residents in the following areas:
Primary aim: The primary aim of the evaluation in strand one is to understand the impact of the Just Bowl programme on the functional capacity of care home residents with dementia.
Secondary aims: The Secondary aims are to assess the impact of Just Bowl from the perspectives of the care home staff.
Equipment and staff training is provided to all those involved in the project. Following the training the staff then deliver 12 weekly sessions following which it is anticipated that they purchase the equipment so the activity becomes a regular weekly session throughout the year.
